2. Nothing so protects a company like network effects. In the CL case, it is the people, not the code that make the company unstoppable. They can screw up everything else, but because they have the people there is no stopping them.

“Network effect” is just Internet entrepreneur speak for “customer.” I find it much more beneficial to use the traditional term ;)
I also prefer to describe the technology-side of web services as commodities, as most - Craigslist being a perfect example - could be made and deployed by anyone.
