Winer mostly uses Tumblr to talk about RSS Cloud, his contribution to the real-time web.

This is a big deal. It telegraphs acceptance by the Old Guard.

Agreed this is a big win for Tumblr, although, not sure I like the term Old Guard here.  ’Old Guard’ connotates an unwillingness to accept new ideas - and Winer is a pioneer, who just happens to be older than your average digerati.

Fair point. You’re right. He’s been at this longer than most of us, but he’s still extremely forward thinking and innovative.
