The lowest-paying 25 occupations employ 15.6 million people in America; the best-paying jobs employ 3 million.
But it seems they’ve missed one. Per Time Magazine’s Popchart, #1 should be Simpsons Voice Actors: $400,000 PER episode.
What do all of these jobs have in common? They’re all high risk and high responsibility. in each case you’re holding other people’s lives in your hands. In most cases you’re open to massive liability if you fuck up.
These jobs should pay more — and employ fewer people — than other jobs.
It’s especially noteworthy that the top nine jobs are medical in nature. This is important, and good. People need a significant incentive in order to spend an extra ten years in training for a job that carries absolutely massive responsibility, long hours and massive legal risk. In Japan they don’t pay doctors nearly as well (they get paid state-set rates for individual procedures, like a couple bucks for stitches) and they’re facing a shortage of qualified doctors. I wonder why.
