Fact: Flickr was originally conceived in 2002 as a video game-screenshot sharing web site
Fiction. Flickr was originally called “The Game Never Ending” — it was a massively multiplayer online role playing game. They happened to add a photo sharing component, which promptly outstripped GNE in terms of popularity. This is why Flickr URLs end in “.gne”.
