FiveThirtyEight: US Manufacturing is alive and well. The real issue is manufacturing employment, which is dropping like a stone. And the reason for the drop is an increase in productivity.

I heard a long diatribe on Fox News by authors of a new book that included Lou Dobbs. They insist the country must make more manufacturing jobs or we’ll never return to our greatness. They had a giant blame list for why these jobs went away. None of them were correct. None of them had any constructive solutions other then ‘letting Detroit make cars instead of DC regulators,’ which is funny because w/o D.C. GM and Chrysler wouldn’t be making any cars at all.
