Why do so many women choose to manufacture their appearance in this particular way (bleach blonde hair, tan, big boobs, tiny hips)? And why is a look that almost no one (save a few Scandinavians) has naturally the primary ideal of “hotness” in Western society?Because it gets a LOT of attention from men when you look like a walking fantasy off the covers of Playboy and Cosmo. Suddenly, you’re not some photo, you’re there, in front of them, and they go crazy.
Bleached blonde hair? No thanks. Too tanned? Pass. Big boobs? Nice, but not a dealbreaker. Tiny hips? Curves can be nice.
The bottom line is, this is the ideal perpetuated by mass media. I can’t speak for all men but I have a very specific type that these girls definitely do not represent.
The long tail brought home. This same phenomenon manifests itself in many different ways — sex objects, comedy, drama, reportage… you name it. Mass media has brought all things to their natural lowest common denominators. The Internet makes it possible to branch out — to embrace and satisfy our unique tastes.
Welcome to the long tail.
