A new poll suggests that “cutting the deficit” is the sort of thing voters like, so long as nobody has to give anything up to do it.

• 4% favor tax hikes to slash deficit
• 49% want to cut the deficit with spending cuts only …
• but 75-85% of voters oppose cuts to Medicare or Social Security.
