Consider the invention of the microwave. Has anything else accelerated our culture more than that one single thing? Think about the implications of having to cook everything conventionally - it would immediately slow down our entire way of life and change everything at once, sitting down to breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Consider the invention of the mortgage and the mortgage-backed security.  Or the invention of the stock exchange or the short sale or the government security.  Or consider the integrated circuit and the internal combustion engine.  Consider the invention of modern thrifts, the invention of the wire transfer.  Consider the invention of broadcast and the era of mass media that it introduced.

Many things have had huge impacts on our culture.  Many things have changed life forever.  And, due to the nature of innovation, the trend is accelerating.  Imagine the world fifty years from now.  The microwave ain’t shit.
