So my tax dollars are paying for people to be able to watch Fox News!? When did having a television become damn near a right?

If I don’t watch television, can the government give me a handout so I can buy a couple movies off iTunes?

No, your tax dollars are not paying for people to watch FOX News. They’re paying to allow people to watch PBS, NBC, CBS, FOX and ABC. On the theory that the airwaves are a public good. Remember that the networks pay the government for use of the airwaves. What’s really happening here is that some of that money is being directed to people who have televisions but are too poor to upgrade them to receive new digital signals. Reclaimed analog spectrum will be used for emergency services communication, new generations of wireless Internet devices and more.
