Just another reason why standardizing ad formats doesn’t work. People quickly learn what can be ignored, and there’s always a second technology ready to outsmart the first.

I disagree.  Standardization is what allows businesses to operate at scale.  It may be that standards need to be refreshed every few years, but a lack of standardization leads to a lack of dollars.
